Alternatively you could build a multiboot card with whatever you want as the default, and revert back to this whenever you want. This would be significantly more complex than just reimaging the card.
If the target operating system(s) are Raspberry Pi OS and/or Ubuntu, nothing could be simpler for building a multiboot system than
MultiBoot for the Raspberry Pi 5, Raspberry Pi 4, and Raspberry Pi 3. No knowledge or use of additional tools (partitioning, formatting, etc.) is needed and there's no overhead of resident loaders, manangers, etc. involved. Each OS installation runs in a normal yet separate/isolated individual environment, ensuring complete compatibility.
