Did you also consider the option to keep the computer and just replace Windows 10 by Linux there? You could have saved some money and even suspend/hibernate would work.
Using Pi is fine too of course, but sometimes it feels to me like people think they really need different hardware like Raspberry Pi to use Linux while typically there is nothing wrong with the hardware itself and Linux would work there just fine.
Apple dropped support for my MacBookPro. So I wiped the drive and installed Linux. No dual boot or anything, the whole hard drive was erased. Recovery partition is gone too. But the laptop works well, so I'm not complaining.
