The same count increment issue seems to be occurring with the RPi Debug Probe.
It seems to me it would as that's expected behaviour, isn't a problem, is a feature. As described above.

My 'dmesg' shows a new USB device number 46 ...

Code:

[8948751.188566] usb 1-1.4: new full-speed USB device number 46 using xhci_hcd[8948751.290629] usb 1-1.4: New USB device found, idVendor=2e8a, idProduct=c803, bcdDevice=80.03[8948751.290648] usb 1-1.4: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3[8948751.290654] usb 1-1.4: Product: GenUsb-R3C[8948751.290659] usb 1-1.4: Manufacturer: Raspberry Pi[8948751.290664] usb 1-1.4: SerialNumber: EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE[8948751.299814] cdc_acm 1-1.4:1.1: ttyACM0: USB ACM device[8948751.305404] cdc_acm 1-1.4:1.3: ttyACM1: USB ACM device[8948751.310640] cdc_acm 1-1.4:1.5: ttyACM2: USB ACM device
An 'lsusb' shows that as Device 046 ...

Code:

Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hubBus 001 Device 046: ID 2e8a:c803 Raspberry Pi GenUsb-R3CBus 001 Device 002: ID 2109:3431 VIA Labs, Inc. HubBus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Exactly as expected.
