Just to provide some more input:
I'm using rpi5 with plex and a smart tv, sony bravia. Plex works for most things, but it may stutter if it needs to transcode 4k content. My smart tv also has a plex client, and it is probably better in the transcode than the rpi5, but I have to mention that smart tv:s are very annoying for other reasons:
* you pay 1500 € for your tv, and still you have to watch ads.
* plex client is not opensource and the updates probably lag behind
* you're locked into an ecosystem.
So I still prefer to use rpi and kodi for youtube, even if my smart tv also has a youtube client.
So using a dedicates stream client is the way to go. Either raspberry or some x86-based system. A "smart" tv should only be used for its dumb characteristics.
