Thanks to everyone for the responses! I didn't have the time to deal with them until now, so here are my responses:
Have you installed the latest Bookworm 64-bit version of Raspberry Pi OS on that Pi4 using Raspberry Pi Imager?
Actually I didn't have any new OS for 2 years. But I just formatted the SD card and used the Imager program to install the version you named.
Usual questions:
  • What has changed on the router between it working and not?
  • What has changed on the Pi between it working and not?
  • 2.4GHz, 5GHz, or both bands?
  • If both, same SSIDs or different?
  • Which OS is the Pi running and which named release of it?
  • Have you set the WiFi country code?
  • Rather than scanning for APs have you tried a manual configuration via

    Code:

    sudo raspi-config
"remote desktop connection" works over ethernet too you know. Well unless it's miracast (e.g. Windows project to...).

Edited for typos
  • I didn't change anything on the router, except that - I believe - it automatically updates sometimes.
  • I didn't use the Pi at at all, so nothing changed at all.
  • Both bands.
  • Same SSIDs.
  • Now I installed the newest one (64 bit bookworm).
  • Yes, to my country Germany.
  • Yes, but when I click on "1 System Options" --> "S1 Wireless LAN" (now with latest OS) I get "There was an error running option S1 Wireless LAN".

1. Install a fresh image of the latest up to date Raspberry Pi OS on a known good card. Your 2 year old OS is almost certainly well out of date and imho, it's easier to start again...ensuring of course that you have first backed up any data on there that you want to keep.
2. Add a screen and keyboard/mouse so that you can more easily see what you are doing
3. Connect a known good power supply...Poor power supplies can often cause issues.
4. Work through the stages in the official (excellent!) documentation.

https://www.raspberrypi.com/documentation/
1. Good point, I did that now.
2. I do that, of course, since I have no other way to do something with it (no remote connection yet).
3. I have the official power supply from Raspberry Pi.
4. In the documentation there is no mention of my error and by using the search bar I couldn't make it work.... (I used the code "sudo raspi-config nonint do_wifi_ssid_passphrase <SSID> <passphrase> [hidden] [plain]

..... note that my WLAN SSID is "FRITZ!Box 7490" which seems to cause errors in the terminal. I also tried using "FRITZBox7490" instead but to no avail.....

Also I wonder why after I formatted the SD card and used the Imager to write the new OS on it and then started my Raspberry Pi, why there was no initial setup or anything, it just booted directly on my desktop. I thought at least there should be the option to choose from which browser (Chromium/Firefox) I want to use.... maybe I did the OS installation wrong?
