General discussion • Re: Stepper Motor Driver

Hi everyone,
This is a bit weird.
I have an aftermarket automotive ECU, and I have a 4-phase stepper motor connected to it (https://www.oyostepper.com/category-68- ... Motor.html).
Unfortunately, the ECU is current limited to 1A. The motor needs 1.85A (6.5 ohm, 12V motor).
So a larger current supply is needed (no position feedback is needed since the throttle body and ECU already cover that side).
Someone suggested using a MOSFET or BJT.
I'm not sure what components and configurations are needed.
This is Pi-related, how?

You could try running your stepper with the lower current. It might have sufficient torque. Or get a different stepper motor. Or different ECU. Or ask whoever it was precisely what you are supposed to do with the MOSFET or BJT. Or study electronics for three years.
