One thing that is often overlooked when overclocking is that it may require higher value decoupling capacitors at the cpu power rails, its not so much the average power increase but current spikes can grow disproportionally at higher clock frequencies due to contention, taming those spikes may give more stability ..... or enable the chip to destroy itself faster.
