setting aside your project: I have one RPi 3B+, two RP i4s, and one RPi 5.
The 3B+ is terrible for internet use and needs more memory for projects. it's basically a set it up to do one thing and leave it alone device.
I will buy more RPi 4s with 8G memory. the only aggravation is the slow 802.11
The RPi 5 has a vastly faster wifi interface. dealing with venvs for programming is a nice in theory thing, but no program I have tried ever actually works
it would be a very good thing if the RPi people installed an SMA connector for wifi. the RPi 4s with the metal cases need the cellphone placed on top to achieve the poky 1.6 mhz download speeds they achieve. the same cellphone delivers 35 mhz through the RPi 5
