The WiringPi library does not support the Raspberry Pi 5 and cannot be used for GPIO development.
I believe that statement is inaccurate.
(It is necessary to differentiate between the 'original' version of WiringPi that has indeed been deprecated by its developer, and
a more recent 'friendly-fork' that is maintaining the package including making it supported on RPi[5] and Compute Module 5 hardware.)
For an RPi-provided viewpoint see A history of GPIO usage on Raspberry Pi devices, and current best practices - https://pip.raspberrypi.com/categories/ ... ctices.pdf.
That resource mentions libgpiod and its rationale.
