I use the standard case with the active cooler. Works fine here all year (Mediteranean France).As others have said; the lid can trap heat; so, I generally tend to work with it cracked open or removed completely; in the summer especially.
My parents in the cooler UK have the standard case without the cooler and that seems fine too. Albeit; their use case is far less demanding than mine.
I have had bad experience with metal cases. They can cause issues with wireless comms, especially BT..so if that is important to you; I would advise caution with metal cases.
