So true.ImageMagick definitely has A Way of Doing Things. And because it hasn't changed that Way of Doing Things in a couple of decades, the developers have decided it is the Right Way of Doing Things, even if it's completely different from anything else.
FWIW, I could not get it to work. When I clicked Transform -> Crop, most of the time, nothing happens.
One time, I was able to get a diagonal line on the screen and somehow, as if by magic, the picture did get cropped - but not at all in the way I wanted. It actually removed the part I wanted to keep, keeping the part I wanted to get rid of.
What is it to which you refer to as "the rubber band control"? What is that? Is it the same thing as the "pan and scan" thingie? For whatever reason, the one time I did get it to do something, I somehow clicked on the pan and scan thingie.
