I have a test running writing an image from a 2TB disk with an ext4 file system on using dd to the device.

I will try the disable UAS and see if that works.

On a google of the chipset CBM2199 Flash Drive can across this 2tb-flash-drive-scam could this be my problem.
What you have described - the apparent overwriting and corruption if you go past a certain size, you have certainly got a fake drive. I suspect something like a 80GB drive with the firmware hacked to report 4TB.

It is all too common, unfortunately. I've picked up a couple over the years. If you can work out the real capacity you may be able to format and use it for that size. But it probably won't be very fast though and I wouldn't trust it with anything important.

Basically if it seems too cheap to be true - it probably isn't.
